Conducting A Job Interview

Conducting a job interview can be as difficult as it is fun. So, one must be well prepared and knowledgeable about fields varying from business ethics to personal perspectives on subjects, when conducting a job interview. First, you must know the basic job interview questions. You may spend the first few minutes of the interview getting to know the job applicant. Also, don’t be unfriendly and too harsh on the applicant, especially if it is their first interview ever. He/ she may look nervous, be tongue-tight and uneasy to communicate with, but as the interviewer, it is your duty to dissipate the uncomfortable atmosphere. For these purposes you need to be aware about conducting a job interview well.

Rule number one, be friendly, but not too friendly to allow the applicant lose respect for you, if he were to work under you. You must gain the control of the interview. Don’t let one of those chatty candidates divert your attention. Then, you must ask the interview questions skillfully. Go with the flow! Show the applicant that you are very much aware of what you are talking about. Never ask him/her questions that you, yourself will fail to answer skillfully. Experience is a must in this, however, even if you lack experience, doing a thorough background check about the position you are interviewing for and company’s history will help. Remember, that you can’t hire the perfect candidate for a position that don’t exist. Be well aware of the type of work and the various skills the position requires.

Spend at least a good ten minutes asking the candidate questions other than personal details, when conducting a job interview. Ask them about their past job experience, qualifications, talents, skills, achievements and goals. Also, focus on whether they know about the position and type of work that’s expected to be done. Having a little bit of knowledge about noting body language and a glimpse of psychology will definitely help when you are conducting a job interview.

Go over the job once again with the candidate before you wrap up. Make sure he or she is well aware of all the details, so that there are no mishaps when the job is started. Go over the responsibilities, code of conduct, company ethics, work hours, pay, benefits and all the other necessary information. You mustn’t bias anything when conduction a job interview, at the same time put the unpleasing information (like the starting salary, maybe) in a nice way. You are the one in control, so use the opportunity in a polite way.
