Interviews, in the simplest meaning of it, are all about marketing your capabilities. Like everything else, to sell yourself you have to bring in and show all the right tools you have in your arsenal at the right time of the interview to fit in to the right point in order to win that job for you. Job interview preparation should begin with carefully understanding both job specification and job description documents. You must know what they need from you to deliver your best for them. Then it’s better to start your work by an appraisal of skills, talents, strengths and weaknesses you have. You may list down all these qualities that you think you have on a piece of paper. Then you can match each of these qualities with the requirements specified. By doing this, you will be able to have better understanding of what you should elaborate more during the interview and what qualities you should mention. Practicing for common and targeted questions that may be raised during the interview time is very important too. The understanding of what qualities to be highlighted more helps to design your answers for the interviewerÂ’s point of view.

Doing a basic research about the job role and company is also very important as a part of job interview preparation. Especially good knowledge of their recent activities in the business world, their strategies, and the market they are catering, CSR etc. is vital. This understanding will pay off during the interview time when you feel that you can relate your answers much closer to the requirement of the company.
The final job interview preparation is actually preparing yourself for the interview presentation. You might think about your dress, and physical outlook. For most companies a corporate casual dress is the common choice. Knowing the company culture will let you to make a better choice in selecting a suitable dress for the occasion. Dress should be clean, neat and most importantly comfortable. Checking and rechecking the documents you are carrying with you and knowing the location of the interview is vital during job interview preparation. These will help to avoid any rush in the final minutes.

The important point to be highlighted here is that interviewer doesn’t see a different between you and another candidate prior to an interview. It’s you who should place yourself to a beneficial place. During the interview all your other qualifications wouldn’t matter much because all the other candidates may have similar or closer qualifications. It’s the job interview preparation that will help you to find the leading edge by improving your presentation, outlook and confidence.
